SATELLITE RECEPTION FOR TRAVELLERS

If you are travelling in your caravan or boat etc. and you wish to receive Free To Air (FTA) DTV stations at remote locations then the following additional information to my previous blogs may be interesting.

There are several methods now of setting up a portable satellite dish for your travels.

1.full size (85cm) dish mounted on a tripod

advantages;

  • cheapest
  • works best - especially in Northern Australia
  • can be positioned to avoid any nearby obstruction to the satellite signal (big tree, building etc.)

disadvantages;

  • requires manual dish alignment
  • requires most space to store and carry

2.Automatic satellite finder

advantages;

  • simply connect one cable and the satellite is acquired
  • can be positioned to avoid any nearby obstruction to the satellite signal (big tree, building etc.)

disadvantages

  • more costly
  • does not operate as effectively in northern Australia - the satellite signal is weaker
  • storage whilst travelling

3. Roof mount in caravan

advantages;
mounts on the roof of the caravan - so there is no "where will I put it whilst we are on the road" issue"
effective and quick to set up
disadvantages;

  • most costly
  • The dish will be obstructed from the satellite if the caravan is parked under the tree - which is often the case in the north
  • some models still required manual dish alignment

I HAVE OTHER METHODS AS WELL - ESPECIALLY FOR MARINE APPLICATIONS;

Please call to discus further details
